MLO 6: Information Technology Literacy
Description:
The student demonstrates an ability to use technology in support of his or her scholarly work, including gathering, organizing and analyzing sources and employing appropriate delivery techniques in both written and oral formats.
How I fulfilled it:
Each student’s skills in regard to information technology are built, to a varying degree, in the lower division courses, and every individual comes into the Spanish program with a different level of aptitude. It is the responsibility of the faculty to ensure that we have gained a sufficient understanding of how to conduct research and utilize information before we can be approved to graduate. The SPAN 395 Pre-capstone and WLC 400 Major Capstone both served as outlets for improving my research abilities. We spent a number of sessions with Sarah Dahlen from the CSUMB library, where she outlined the correct manner of gathering information for scholastic use. It is immensely important to take responsibility for one’s own findings compared to the findings of others, and the proper labeling and crediting of sources is essential for complete academic integrity. In addition to building an understanding our resources for writing, we must also be informed in the most current methods of presentation. The capstone project requires that the student provide a powerpoint presentation in both English and their target language, so that we may become proficient in the techniques of public speaking and gain experience educating others. I was also exposed to more streamlined methods of file storage that improved my ability to take and store notes and creative ideas for the project. I feel as though I’ve been exposed to the most current methods of education and data management, which will make me a more desirable applicant when I begin my career.
